A History Day

Today was about history which London is full of. Our first stop was Her Majesty’s Royal Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London (or the Tower of London) home of the Crown Jewels (no pics allowed, sorry) and an early post of power in the Kingdom.  Dominated the area it helped control traffic on the River Thames. After the Tower we toured the London Transport Museum which showed how transportation in London grew to accommodate its ever growing population. A fascinating show of accommodation which was met  by competition then the cycle started over again.

Finally we ended at Buckingham Palace, the London residence of the Monarch of the U.K. The location has been occupied since the 14th century and only became a royal residence in the 19th century, fairly recently for these parts.

Sigh. Only one more full day here…

Sydney De Lora And The Prisoner Of The Mews

OK She is getting tired of us. Two weeks of the parents…

Today we journeyed to Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden to see the Harry Potter sets. Formally a Aerodrome it became a movie studio in 1994 when the James Bond film GoldenEye needed to find a place to film due to their usual studio being fully booked. Since then many major productions have been filmed there including The Phantom Menace, Sherlock Holmes and Edge of Tomorrow.

The sets were interesting to see, some of the items I assumed were CGI were in fact built by the production team. It was also fascinating to see how forced perspective played a large part in the production. Fascinating! I cannot even try to tie the sets to the movies so I will limit my commentary, enjoy the pics.

I thought these doors were CGI especially the one on the right. Not true, all the gears were moving when we saw it.
